JORGE BEN Jor - Taj Mahal

This classic from Brazilian singer/songwriter Jorge Ben Jor was famously plagiarized by British singer Rod Stewart in his 1979 smash-hit Do You Think I'm Sexy. The dispute was settled in court, where it was ruled that the melody of Stewart's song contained substantial elements of Ben's 1976 version of his previously released song. The original version of Taj Mahal was released by Ben in 1972, in 1976 he released a re-worked version on Africa Brasil - one of his most popular albums. The melody of this popular version was used by Stewart in his hit song. As result of losing the lawsuit, Stewart made an agreement that all the royalties from his song would be donated to UNICEF.
