BOB MARLEY'S MUSIC

BOB MARLEY - Could You Be Loved   ><  DE LA SOUL  - Keepin' The Faith

1980
In 1980, Could You Be Loved was the first reggae song to get major airplay on US radio stations. Bob Marley had written the song to appeal to the American mainstream market ahead of what was to be his final tour. Could You Be Loved is one of the half dozen songs sampled by Prince Paul on De La Soul's Keepin' The Faith. The song is the final track on De La Soul Is Dead - the second album from the hip hop trio.
1991

BOB MARLEY - Concrete Jungle    ><    LAURYN HILL - Forgive Them Father

1973
Concrete Jungle appears on Catch A Fire, the fifth album from Bob Marley and The Wailers - their first album on Island Records. Lauryn Hill sampled Concrete Jungle on Forgive Them Father, a song featured on her debut Miseducation album. Her deeply personal album was inspired by her pregnancy with the child of Rohan Marley - Bob Marley's son. Although Hill often referred to Marley as her husband, the two were never married. They had five children together before their relationship ended in 2009.
1998

BOB MARLEY - Them Belly Full  ><  POOR RIGHTEOUS TEACHERS - Strictly Mash'ion

1974
In 1991 Poor Righteous Teachers released their second album Pure Poverty. The album features Strictly Mash'ion, which samples Them Belly Full by Bob Marley And The Wailers. Them Belly Full appears on Marley's 1974 Natty Dread album. This was the first album that was released by Bob Marler and The Wailers, rather then just the Wailers. The album was also the first Wailer album to not include both Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer.
1991

BOB MARLEY - Jammin'    ><    STEVIE WONDER - Master Blaster (Jammin')

1977
In 1980 Stevie Wonder wrote Master Blaster (Jammin') as a tribute to Bob Marley, who was fighting cancer at the time (and died the following year). The song was the first single from Wonder's Hotter Than July album, and it samples Marley's Jammin'. Bob Marley & The Wailers were billed as the opening act on Wonder's US tour that year, and Wonder was often performing live with Marley. The Hotter Than July album also features Happy Birthday, Wonder's tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
1980

BOB MARLEY - Get Up Stand Up   ><   OUTKAST ft GOODIE MOB - Git Up Get Out

1973
Get Up Stand Up is featured on Bob Marley's Burnin' album. In this song, Marley quotes Abraham Lincoln in the lyrics - "you can fool all the people sometimes, you can fool some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time." In 1994, the rap trio Outkast released their debut album. The album features Git Up, Get Out - the vocals on the song were inspired by Get Up, Stand Up.
1994

BOB MARLEY - Sun Is Shining    ><    REDMAN ft METHOD MAN - Blow Treez

1971
Sun Is Shing was originally produced by Lee Perry and recorded by Bob Marley in the 1960's. The song was re-recorded by Marley in 1978 for his Kaya album. In 1999 the original version of the song was remixed into a house song by Funkstar Deluxe, topping the charts in the US. The song out-charted any of Marley's releases in much of the world. Sun Is Shining has been sampled numerous times, such as by Redman and Method Man on Blow Treez, featured on Redman's 2007 album Red Gone Wild.

In 2007, Natural Mystic was sampled on Soundboy Rock - the title track off UK electronic dance group Groove Armada's fifth studio album.
