FERGIE - National AnthemOn February 18, 2018, Team LeBron defeated Team Giannis at the 67th NBA All-Star Game, 148-145. The exhibition game was held at LA's Staple Center - the home of the L.A. Lakers and the L.A. Clippers. The slow and jazzy performance of the National Anthem by Fergie has been called one of the all-time worst renditions of the song. During the performance it appeared painfully hard for the players to contain their laughter. After the performance she said she had wanted to "try something special for the NBA", and she added "I'm a risk-taker artistically." Ultimately she apologized, saying "I tried my best." Fergie's ex-husband Josh Duhamei lashed out at Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, calling him a prick, and demanded that he apologize too - for laughing during the performance.

YOKO ONO + Chuck Berry & John LennonIn February 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged a take-over of the popular daytime Michael Douglas Show. Things got quite weird the day Chuck Berry appeared on the show with John and Yoko. Rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry was one of John Lennon's heroes, and for the show the two performed Memphis, Tennessee and Johnny B. Goode. During the performance Yoko Ono demanded attention with her rather unusual, and somewhat deranged, vocalizing that seemed to catch Berry off guard. When Yoko puts aside her bongo and removes the mic from the stand, Berry's eyes almost pop out of his head. By the time he recovers, Yoko once again grabs the mic for another painful shriek, only to have her mic silenced by the sound guy. Although the audience and viewers were spared, Berry was clearly not missing Yoko's antics through the rest of the performance.

ASHLEY SIMPSON - SNL LipsyncAshley Simpson's 2004 lip-syncing fiasco was one of the most embarrassing musical moments in Saturday Night Live's history.
For her first song of the night, Simpson appeared to perform her hit Pieces of Me without a problem. However, when she returned for the tragic performance of her new album Autobiography's title track, the vocal track for the first song played while an embarrassed Simpson held the m ic down by her side. She then panicked, did a how-down jig and then abruptly walked off the stage. The cover had been blown on the blatantly obvious lip-sync performance. The whole episode drew critisism and became a controversy for SNL and for the music industry. In her defense, Simpson blamed the incident on a bad case of acid reflux, which she claimed had prompted her doctor to recommend she not sing. |

STONE ROSES - debut on BBCOn November 21st 1989, British rock band The Stone Roses made their television debut on the BBC's The Late Show. This was a much anticipated event where the band would finally perform the new indie sound they had pioneered to a national audience. About a minutee into the performance of their massive hit Made of Stone the band blows a fuse. After an awkward panic, the bands frontman Ian Brown belts out "We're wasting our time lads. Amateurs!" Fortunately, the band had re-do with an appearance the following week on Top of the Pops with fellow Manchester band The Happy Mondays, and that performance went without a hitch.

MARIAH CAREY - All I Want For XmasOn Dec 6, 2013, diva superstar Mariah Carey was in Washington at the National Christmas Tree Lighting to perform her 1994 holiday classic All I Want for Christmas Is You. The forever classic song had been revived 2 years earlier with the release of the "Superfestive" duet version featuring Justin Bieber. She is one of the most powerful vocalists of all-time, but on this rough performance she struggled with surprising difficulty. A few years later, on Dec 15, 2016, Carey had a more casual performance this song on The Late Late Late Show with James Corden in an installment of the popular Carpool Karaoke. The classic all-star version featured The Red Hot Chili Peppers with Gwen Stefani, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Adele, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas and Chris Martin. This one song has earned Carey over 60 million dollars in royalties.

DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS - Come OnEnglish pop rock band Dexy's Midnight Runners had a huge international #1 hit with their 1982 song Come On Eileen. The song off their Too-Rye-Ay album was their second #1 hit in the UK. The song has been ranked one of the top songs of the 1980's. This live concert recording of the song captures a very unfortunate performance of their massive hit, not only did singer Ian Brown have a tough time with his clingy vocals that fateful day, but it didn't help that the backup singers cannot be heard very well as a result of poor mixing or mic setup.. No lip-sync or auto-tune here - just 100% pure talent. Additionally, the poor video quality of the recording doesn't help, there are other sound problems caused by a tape glitch that caused audio distortions.

LED ZEPPLIN & PHIL COLLINSThe legendary benefit concert Live Aid was held on July 13th, 1985 at London's Wembley Stadium and at Philadelphia's JFK Stadium. The show was a follow-up to the hugely successful benefit recording Do They Know It's Christmas. Both were produced and organized by singer and activist Bob Geldof. Phil Collins performed at Live Aid in both London and Philadelphia - on the same day. In London, Collins played a solo set. Then, after a helicopter, Concorde and a jet got him to Philadelphia, he played another solo set, played drums for Eric Clapton's 17-minute set, and he played drums for a reunion of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin - the later being a complete train wreck. On the Concorde, Phil Collins ran into Cher, who was unaware of the concerts. She followed Collins to Philadelphia and was able to be a part of the finale performance of We Are The World.

MICHAEL BOLTON - National AnthemOn Oct 13, 2003, The Boston Red Sox and The New York Yankees were playing Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. at Fenway Park. Grammy award winning singer Michael Bolton was billed to sing the National Anthem for the event. On one of the all-time great National Anthem fails, Bolton pauses mid-song after forgetting the lyrics. The continued after nonchalantly checking the lyrics that he had inscribed on his hand. Bolton is not the only star performer who has forgotten the words to the National Anthem. Christina Aguilera forgot and jumbled the words when she performed the song for Super Bowl XLV on February 6, 2011.

And as if that all wasn't bad enough... there was their performance of Buttons. NIRVANA - Bass In The FaceIn 1992, MTV was filming the Video Music Awards show featuring a performance from Seattle grunge kings Nirvana. Bassist Krist Novoselic had already felt frustrated with the day because MTV didn't want the band to play their controversial song Rape Me. In an attempt to turn the bad day around, Novoselic resorted to his signature "bass toss." Usually the move perked him up, however his awkward toss sent the bass smashing down on his face while performing the song Lithium. The bass had soared up about 25 feet before crashing down, almost knocking him out and leaving a deep gash on his forehead. Novoselic later blamed the incident partially on the cheap warm beer he had been served all day. To his good fortune, while paramedics tended to him, Queen guitarist Brian May came to aid him with a glass of chilled champagne.
