Ethiopian musician Malutu Astatke is known as the Father Of Ethio-Jazz. He released three influential albums in the 1970's of mainly instrumental tracks. Although most of his music was produced in Ethiopa for his Amha Records label, some of his recordings were from New York such as his 1972 album Malutu Of Ethiopa. The song Kasalefkut-Hulu comes off that album, in 1998 that track was sampled on the song Pure Uncut - featured on Eighball's 1998 debut solo album Lost.

Puerto Rico-born freestyle artist India got found great success in the mid 1990's with the emergence of Latin House. In 1994 she released The Tribal EP and Love and Happiness with Little Louie Vega. Also in 1994 she released her salsa hit Mi No Convene, which was sampled by Puff Daddy for Señorita, a single from his 1997 solo debut album. Mi No Convene was sampled again in 2019 by Dj Khaled for You Stay, featuring J. Balvin, Meek Mill, Jeremiah and Lil Baby.

Les Difficiles De Petion-Ville is compas style dance group from Haiti. In 2007 Wyclef Jean sampled their song Espoir/ Composition X for Let Me Touch Your Belly Button. Compas is a common music style in numerous countries, including Portugal, France, Africa, Canada and North America.

BALLA ET SES BALLANDIND - Paulette    ><    J. COLE - Con't Get Enough

Balla Et Ses Ballandind were a dance music orchestra that formed in Guinea in 1962. When the country had gained independence there were numerous state sponsored groups that were formed to produce traditional music of Guinea - the music in the colonized country had been dominated by European styles. The most popular group to come out of this government initiative was Balla Et Ses Ballandind. In 2011 J. Cole sampled their 1980 song Paulette on his hit single Can't Get Enough.

TOYOSHIMA TAZUMI - Tomadoi Twilight    ><    YOUNG JEEZY ft JAY-Z - Seen It All

Seen It All is the second single off Young Jeezy's 2014 album Seen It All: The Autobiography. This seventh studio album in ten years from Jeezy features appearences by Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Game, Future and others. Seen It All, the title track, features an apperance by   Jay-Z and is built on top of an obcure Japanese sample from Toyoshima Tazumi's 1979 Tomandoi Twilight.

Mogollar was a Turkish rock band founded in the late 1960's that pioneered Turkish rock music. Among their early achievements, in 1971 the band won the Grand Prix Du Disque of the Charles Cros Academy - which had been previously awarded to Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. In 2001 Jay Dee sampled Mogollar's 1971 song Halic'te Gun Batisi on his Welcome 2 Detroit.

FEMI KUTI - Colonial Mentality    ><    MISSY ft TIMBERLAND - Whatcha Gon Do

Colonial Mentality is the sole B side track on Nigerian Afrobeat composer and musician Femi Kuti's 1977 album Sorrow Tears And Blood. The A side features a 17 minute version of the title track. In 2001 sample crazy producer Timberland iused elements from the fourteen minute Colonial Mentality for her Missy Elliott's What Cha Gonna Do, a song off her 2001 album So Addictive.

MARCOS VALLE - Previsao Do Tempo    ><    JOEY BADA$$ - Alowha

Marcos Valle is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and producer who has produced music in many different genres. When Valle released Previsao Do Tempo in 1973 he was producing music for Brazil's version of Sesame Street - Vila Sesamo. In 2013 Brooklyn hip hop artist Joey Bada$$ sampled that song for Alowha, off his Summer Nights EP.

CHEO FELICIANO - Eso Es El Guaguanco    ><    LIL KIM - No Matter What They Say

Cheo Feliciano was a Puerto Rican composer and singer know for salsa and bolero music. Feliciano played alongside many artists and in many groups, in the 1970's he recorded fifteen recodes with Fania Record Company. In 2000 Lil Kim sampled Feliciano's 1971 Eso Es El Guaguanco for No Matter What They Say off her second album. Feliciano has also been sampled by Black Eyed Peas on Karma, and by Gloria Estefan on Oye Mi Canto. On June 20, 2008 it was declared Cheo Feliciano Day in New York City.

MARCOS VALLE - Ele e Ela   ><   JAY-Z - Thank You

Ele e Ela is a track from the previously mentioned Brazilian singer Marcos Valle off his 1970 self-titled album. At the time of this recording Valle was keeping very busy writing for TV shows and soap operas. Later in 1972 he joined up the Brazilian version of Sesame Street. In 2009 Jay-Z sampled Ele e Ela on Thank You, track two on 2009's The Blueprint 3 - his eleventh studio album.
