This classic 1958 tune from Italian singer/actor Domenico Modugno was a huge international hit. The song was born out of a song writing contest, Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu was the chosen Italian entry to 1958's Eurovision Song Contest. The songs title translated in English is "in the sky, painted blue." The song is also know as Volare - which means "the sky," and it has been covered by Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, David Bowie, Barry White, The Gypsy Kings and countless dozens of others. Later in life Modungo was elected into the Italian Parliament, where he was very active in human rights and social issues.
