This 1969 track from The Outlaw Blues band was sampled for Cypress Hill's When The Shit Goes Down off their stellar second album produced by DJ Muggs in 1993. Deep Gully was also sampled for MC Serch's Back To The Grill the previous year, and it's been sampled several other times. When The Shit Goes Down also sampled Billy Cobham's 1973 Stratus.

The classic Notorious B.I.G. 1994 single Everyday Struggle got it's groove from David Grusin's Either Way, which appears on his 1979 Mountain Dance album. The Oscar winning pianist/ composer was well know for the many movie soundtracks he produced, he has been nominated for the Oscar three times.

The Ultramagnetic MC's, also known as The UMC's, had a few huge hits off their two albums in early 1990's. The Statan Island MC's got this memorable groove from a 1967 track off jazz and funk trumpeter Blue Mitchel's 1967 Heads Up album. One To Grow On also samples Bill Cosby's Ursulena.

In 1999 Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest  released Vivrant Thing as a solo artist. On this track producers Q-Tip and Jay Dee found their beat in I Wanna Stay, off 1975's Music Maestro Please from Barry White's 40-piece Love Unlimited Orchestra. The band recorded several "solo" Lp's, their most successful track was Love's Theme in 1973.

DEXTER WANSEL - New Beginning    ><    THE LOX - Money Power and Respect

Keyboarder/producer Dexter Wansel played a big part in the Philly Sound movement of the 1970's and 1980's. Wansel wrote the 1981 hit Nights Over Egypt for The Jones Girls, and he produced big records for Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle, The Jacksons and others. This soul ballad was sampled for the title track off of The Lox's 1998 debut album, Money, Power & Respect.

The groove on 1995's controversial I Shot Ya Remix by LL Cool J comes from this 1975 Lyn Collins track. When the Trackmasters-produced track was released 2Pac thought the song was dissing him, referencing his being robbed and shot in a New York recording studio.  2Pac's response was dissing back on Lil Hommies, an unofficial release. DMX and Ja Rule soon jumped in to the action with track dissing 2Pac over his Lil Hommies beat.

This 1974 track from mighty Isaac Hayes was sampled from the 1974 Tough Guys soundtrack. In 1992 this track was sampled by Houston's Geto Boys on their fourth album We Can't Be Stopped. This song by the southern rap pioneers  is considered to be one of the top hip-hop singles of the nineties - and of all-time.
