In 1974, blues musician Bo Diddley released his 18th studio album Big Bad Bo. The album featured the song Hit Or Miss, which has been sampled over 60 times. The drums and other elements were prominently sampled by De La Soul in their 1989 hit Buddy. Before De La Soul sampled the song, the song was sampled on several other hip-hop songs, by artists including Def Jeff, Skooly D and UTFO.

In 1955, Bo Diddley released I'm A Man - it was one of his first big hits. I'm A Man borrows it hook from the song it was inspired by - the 1955 Muddy Waters' hit Mannish Boy (originally She Moves Me). I'm A Man is considered on of the greatest songs of all time, its copied hook was copied by or sampled by many others, including Johnny Guitar Watson, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Sweet, Motorhead, Funkadelic and others. In 1982 the hook was used in the George Thorogood and The Destroyers hit Bad To The Bone. The song's music video featured the band playing a game of pool with Bo Diddley.
